BROADBAND PROBLEMS

Faulty extension wiring or telephone line based equipment: can often cause intermittent connection and or synchronisation problems, that appear to be quite difficult to resolve via your internet service providers telephone help line.

Extension wiring may degrade or become damaged over time - particularly if it runs under high passage areas or across doorways - therefore you should eliminate this as a potential cause of your connection fault. Other equipment could also be causing interference, despite being filtered. If you already connect your Broadband ADSL router / modem through a filter to your BT Master socket then this should be a simple process, if you do not then you will need to move your equipment in order to start your testing process

Plug your ADSL Broadband router / modem in to the master socket test port, through a filter / micro filter. If this solves your connection problem, you should be able to work out which sections of cable need to be replaced.

The most common cause of intermittent connection faults is a faulty micro filter.

If you get intermittently disconnected but the sync light on your broadband hardware is solid green, you should check the idle settings on your hardware, this could be set to a low value.
